What makes me a qualified tutor?
If you are looking for a qualified tutor for high school math or science classes, I am the tutor you are looking for. My name is Jonathan Panzer. I am a certified tutor through the National Tutoring Association. I graduated cum laude from Hope College with a Bachelor’s of Science in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology. My major was certified with distinction by the American Society of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (ASBMB), a privilege that I alone received among my graduating class.
Beyond my knowledge of the material, my tutoring experience qualifies me. I have tutored both formally and informally to a wide variety of students over a period of several years. I started my tutoring journey when I was still in high school. On the weekends, I would teach tennis to young kids and beginner adults. In college I started to tutor formally for Children’s After School Achievement (CASA). While tutoring for CASA, I would help an at-risk elementary student with his homework. After college, I joined Studypoint where I gained valuable experience preparing high school students for the ACT, SAT, and various AP classes. Presently, I tutor through my own business: Eureka Tutoring.
I have helped many students over the several years that I have been tutoring professionally. All of them have improved. Some have even improved their SAT score by 200 points, others their cumulative ACT score by 4 points.
Who is Jonathan Panzer?
I am 23 years old and I am determined to make a positive impact on the world. The pursuit of knowledge is my favorite pastime. My love of learning is only exceeded by my love to help others learn. I believe that knowledge opens doors for people. In fact, it is one of the key ways people can better themselves.
A good education creates a stable foundation for any challenge a person might be faced with in their life. For this reason, education should not just be about passing the class or getting the A. These are short term goals that can cause gaps in the educational foundation. They rely heavily on short term memory. Regrettably, as soon as the test is over, the student forgets the content and has to relearn everything when final exams are administered. Education is about preparing for the future: gaining the mental tools necessary for the challenges ahead.
In my opinion, comprehension is of the utmost importance. Understanding the “why” is just as important as understanding the “what.” Therefore, in my tutoring sessions I strive for student comprehension, not just memorization to pass the next test.
